Tournaments

Chess for Success organizes the annual Chess for Success Regional and State Championship tournaments for elementary, middle and high school students.

These tournaments started as the OMSI Tournament in 1967. 46 players in grades four through eight participated in the first tournament. Now thousands of students in kindergarden through twelfth grade participate in 24 regional tournaments throughout Oregon. The 2014 State Tournaments will be held March 14 and 15 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

To register for a Regional tournament, use the red button to the right. Click on Region descriptions after selecting "Regional Tournaments" to see when and where your tournament will be happening.

For the State Tournaments, use the red button, then select State Championship, enter your Region number from the drop down menu and then select either the Team or Individual tournament. State Check-In starts at 8:00am.

Chess for Success also organizes other tournaments, such as the City of Portland and Girls Play Chess Tournaments. Once these tournament dates are set, they will become available on the Registration form. The 2013 Girls Play Chess tournament was at Chief Joseph Elementary on April 6. The 2013 City of Portland Champioship was at Shaver Elementary on April 27.

Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown wrote a letter congratulating all of the qualifiers for the State Championships. Here is a link to that letter.
