Special Keynote Speaker, Shemia Fagan

Emcee: Richard Meeker, President, City of Roses Media Company, and Founder, Willamette Week’s Give!Guide

Special Guest: Guadalupe Guerrero, Superintendent of Portland Public Schools

As a mom and a civil rights attorney, Shemia Fagan has a proven record of standing up for working people and families with an unparalleled sense of urgency. Oregon’s greatest challenges like housing, education, and healthcare are more than just empty statistics for Shemia. Thanks to great Oregon schools, Shemia was able to put herself through college and law school. Her first legal job was as a pro bono attorney for Oregonians facing evictions to ensure that their rights were being upheld. On the David Douglas School Board and in the Oregon House, Shemia led the fight to protect Oregonians’ healthcare, raise the minimum wage, and fully fund our schools. Today, Shemia is running to represent East Portland in the Oregon Senate. When Shemia isn’t fighting for issues that matter to Oregonians, she’s polishing her 1991 Oregon State chess championship trophy and passing on the tradition of chess to her children.
