Standards of Player Conduct

The actions and behavior of individuals participating in tournaments sponsored by Chess For Success (CFS), shall be in accordance with USCF rules and regulations, and consistent with the principles of fair play, good sportsmanship, honesty and respect for the rights of others. Intentional violations of tournament regulations, or cheating, in a game of chess by: giving, receiving, offering, or soliciting advice; consulting written sources; tampering with clocks; or any other manner of violation will not be tolerated. Such violations should be reported to the tournament director immediately. The tournament director will gather the facts, make a judgment, and, if appropriate, assign consequences. Consequences for such actions may include forfeiture of a game and disqualification from the tournament.

It is important that the tournament director have broad discretion in determining the consequence for violations of the player conduct code. However, CFS recommends that a violation affecting the outcome of a game result in forfeiture of the violator's game with any further violation by that player or team resulting in a progressively more serious consequence (e.g., disqualification from the tournament).
